The PokerStars European Poker Tour event in Barcelona is well underway, with both Day 1 flights completed. The Casino de Barcelona hosted an impressive 758 participants, with 495 alone turning up to Day 1B – that’s 67 more than the entire field for last year’s EPT Barcelona!
The buy-in for this year’s EPT Barcelona is €5,000 + €300, which has made for a total prize pool of almost €3.8 million and a first prize payout of €825,000 awaits the eventual champion.
Star names still bidding for that prize include Carlos Mortensen, Kevin MacPhee, Liv Boeree and Bertrand Grospellier. The likes of John Duthie, Triple Crown chasing Daniel Negreanu, Allan Baekke and last year’s EPT Barcelona champion Carter Phillips, have already bitten the dust.
The chip leader going into the second day of this EPT tournament is Spain’s Luis Rufas, who took the lead in the fifth level and never looked back. His stack is 232,100 deep and his nearest rival is Loic Sa, the only other player to break the 200,000 barrier.
The European Poker Tour Barcelona event will conclude on Saturday 27th of November. Stay tuned for all the latest updates from poker’s biggest tournaments.
